Cat back exhaust options?

96 ex cab 2wd 4.3 5spd
does anyone know of any bolt on cat back options that aren't $6-700

I am tired of fabbing up stuff. I am looking for an inexpensive cat back setup. I Don't want super loud flowmaster 40 series, etc.
I also don't want Walker brand Oem replacements with the crimped tubing and such.

dynomax makes pipes that are mandrel bent true 2.5" id instead of factory 2.5" OD before cat and 2.25 OD after the muffler (at least thats how my 03 was)

then i bought a magnaflow muffler that was shorter but had same inlet and outlet style and bolted it all up. i have MAYBE 200 in parts.

cool. thanks.
The biggest problem is the mid pipe. GM seemed to have changed the flange style a couple different times. mine has a 3 bolt flange which was something like 96-99 only. I guess I could buy a new walker midpipe and then a dynomax muff and tailpipe.

DAMMIT!!!!! Looks like all the Dynomax tailpipes are specifically for ZR2's and 4x4's. Nothing listed for 2wd other than Walker brand with the crimped bends.

Hell at this point I'd even take complete stock assembly if I could find one for a 96-98 with the proper flange.

You looked at Summit? I had the summit exhaust on my 98. Wasn't bad, turbo muffler, wasn't loud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y-ONHWLqT8

it's funny you mention this because I was searching S10 based facebook pages yesterday and the summit S10 kit was mentioned so I checked it out. Pretty sure that is the route I am going. it's cheap and seems to fit my needs pretty much perfectly.
My only question about it is they list 2 different part numbers (one ends in a 30, the other a 31) and reading the descriptions I can't seem to find a difference.
I figure when its time to pull the trigger I will call Summit and ask.

I couldn't remember if it was summit or jegs (heck, maybe both). I know the V8 swap guys didn't have any complaints with them.

Hey actually Gibson makes a couple of good cat backs for RWD shortbase 1996 S10. The first option is single pipe side exit catback and the 2nd one is a split dual exit cat back with a bit deeper tone. They are probably the most affordable custom exhaust systems for these trucks.

Thanks for the heads up. But I am not a fan of Gibson exhaust. pretty sure the Summit exhaust is the route I am going, plus being a 3" setup, I can still use it once the V8 goes in.

Oh look, now you have a convenient link to their website where you can possibly purchase the item they discuss!
