The Drone

I have been driving this full time for a few weeks now. Exhaust always had a "puff" to it, but recently it became much louder. Around the same time as the increase in noise, it threw an engine code for catalytic efficiency.

Problem was obvious.

Muffler was original to the truck, and it had a few small holes starting. Replace it with a universal from Walker.

Out back in the shed I have some old exhaust parts. Sure enough there were some catalytic converters to choose from.

I picked the universal, as its most likely newer and has less miles on it. Cut off the existing hack'ry and cleaned up the ends.

Don't have any completed pictures. Exhaust went back together well with no fuss. Engine light is off, and I passed my emissions test. WIN!

Front end nightmare

This thing has had a baffed out front end for way to long now. Upper control are bushings are destroyed, metal on metal. Alignment is way off & it pops & click going over anything that's not new pavement.

Its about time I get to correcting this.

Disassembly was fun.. I'm certain that the front end has never been apart since the factory, which is good and bad. Mystery #1 was the shocks. I was expecting Bilstein's as this is a ZQ8 truck. Turns out, these deCarbon are factory ZQ8 shocks up to 2001, when GM switched to Bilstein.

Factory upper/lower ball joints were still good! Can't believe it. They look like hell with their ripped boots, but they had no play & slight resistance to movement.

Passenger side spring was broken, correcting for the factory lean..

Passenger side is all back together, except I managed to damage the brake line. DOH!

Local auto parts store stayed open an extra 10 min so I could pick up a new line. Matched the bends off the old one, turned out good.
