I would almost guarantee the 7.5 rears have cheesy 26 spline axles. if there are 28 spline 7.5's, they are rare.

I know there are 7 5/8" rears with 26 spline axles.

The ring gear is the only thing that differs, so why wouldn't they make a rear end with a 7.5" gear that has a diff with the spiders for a 28 spline axle?

7.625" rear ends have 28 spline axles, you're thinking of the older 7.5" rear that has the 26 spline axles.

Not only is the spline count different, the axles are beefier (bigger diameter) on the 28 spline.
Both the ring gear diameter and the axle diameter were incremental changes, but they transformed a totally weak rearend into a completely marginal one.

Nope. F-bod rears are wider. I had to narrow mine (3rd gen, 4th gens are wider yet) about 3-1/2" or 3-3/4" per side.
What's cool is that when you do this, the lower control arm mounts line up almost perfectly with the front leaf spring perches. (I narrowed it from the inside.)

thanks! i'll take that into consideration. the one i'm looking at might be used as a doner for the rear to the black truck, and the lt1 for the rust bucket

besides, i know a person thats looking for a fbody car for circle track and this would be perfect!

thanks!

can someone tell me what years/models i can find the 8.5"

are all the 8.5 inch from S10's the same?

are they all posi?

is the end-to-end axle length of the 8.5 the same as the 7.5?

does anyone know how much HP the 7.5, 7-5/8, and 8.5 can handle?
