Sounds like you need a new mechanic! There's no way he actually checked that and thought it was ok. Considering how gone your current bushings are and the fact that you're upgrading to a better material, it should feel tons better. Especially if you do the ball joints like your planning on.

Nice truck BTW. Jeff, your first gen looks similar to what I want mine to be like.

I have a feeling that when the front end was last checked ( Last summer ) It was on the hoist. So steering components were easily checked (which are all good as far as I can tell), but with the suspension completely off the ground I bet it was near impossible to check the bushings, Or they were never checked...

Truck is now riding on new shoes...

I called around to every tire store I could think of and no one stocks 235/55/16 or 245/50/16. They are available but have to be ordered in and I have to pay up front, Aprox $160 each + install + balance + tax...

Well I needed tires like yesterday. The two front tires were just about slicks and one of them had a shifted belt, so my steering wheel would wobble. The rear tires were a little better, but not good enough to bother switching.

My dad recommend a place called Queenston Tire & Rims. They are a local small business that sells new and used tires. Of course when I called and asked for the two sizes listed above, the guy on the phone (who was really nice) laughed at me. He said "You drive an S-10 Xtreme I bet." Apparently (according to this guy) those tires sizes are very uncommon and that's why they are hard to find.

He looked through his inventory of new and used to find something that was close to what I wanted. He found a used set of 235/60/16 with about 85%-90% tread. Same width as what I had on the truck but the side wall is 1 inch taller total.

New shoes on the truck. $80 a tire installed/balanced including tax.

I know I will most likely chew through these tires fast because my front end is anything but in prime condition. At least I'm not wobbling down the road anymore afraid of hitting potholes and blowing a tire.

Also installed new 35W slim ballast's for my HID lights. The original ballast's were starting to flake out. I would have to toggle the Hi-Beams a few times to get the bulbs to strike.

I haven't been driving the truck much, mostly because of the worn out control arm bushings. So not much has changed from my last post.

I did however spend this weekend getting it ready for winter storage. 6 cans of Rust-Check, -40 degree washer fluid, full tank of ethanol free gas and some bumps and bruises. Parked the truck in my storage tent and pulled the battery. See you in the spring!

Getting back at it

After 2.5 years in storage, the '99 is back. Installed a battery, cycled the key a few times, and she started up like a new vehicle.

I still need to go through it and check everything. The bed is full of parts that need to go on. Intrepid electric fans, upper/lower bushings, etc...
